چکیده

Optimization of a High-Efficiency Jet Ejector by Computational Fluid Dynamics Software. (May 2005) Somsak Watanawanavet, B.S., Chulalongkorn University Co-Chairs of Advisory Committee: Dr. Mark T. Holtzapple Dr. Charles J. Glover Research was performed to optimize high-efficiency jet ejector geometry (Holtzapple, 2001) by varying nozzle diameter ratios from 0.03 to 0.21, and motive velocities from Mach 0.39 to 1.97. The high-efficiency jet ejector was simulated by Fluent Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software. A conventional finite-volume scheme was utilized to solve two-dimensional transport equations with the standard k-ε turbulence model (Kim et. al., 1999). In this study of a constant-area jet ejector, all parameters were expressed in dimensionless terms. The objective of this study was to investigate the optimum length, throat diameter, nozzle position, and inlet curvature of the convergence section. Also, the optimum compression ratio and efficiency were determined. By comparing simulation results to an experiment, CFD modeling has shown high-quality results. The overall deviation was 8.19%, thus confirming the model accuracy. Dimensionless analysis was performed to make the research results applicable to any fluid, operating pressure, and geometric scale. A multi-stage jet ejector system with a total 1.2 compression ratio was analyzed to present how the research results may be used to solve an actual design problem.

Multiphase flow and tromp curve simulation of dense medium cyclones using Computational Fluid Dynamics

Dense Medium Cyclone is a high capacity device that is widely used in coal preparation. It is simple in design but the swirling turbulent flow, the presence of medium and coal with different density and size fraction and the presence of the air-core make the flow pattern in DMCs complex. In this article the flow pattern simulation of DMC is performed with computational fluid dynamics and Fluent...

Simulation of the Effect of a Baffle Structure on Membrane Efficiency Using Computational Fluid Dynamics during the Clarification of Pomegranate Juice

Background and Objectives: Pomegranate juice (PJ) contains large particles that stick to evaporator walls causing off flavors in the concentrate due to burning. Microfiltration is used to clarify PJ. Fouling is a limiting phenomenon that can prevent the industrialization of membrane clarification. Changes in the geometry of the membrane module such as using baffles are useful to decrease this p...

Simulation of the Effect of Centrifugation on Membrane Efficiency by Using Computational Fluid Dynamics During the Clarification of Pomegranate Juice

Background and Objectives: Pomegranate juice is prone to turbidity, which makes it hard to preserve and concentrate. Microfiltration is one of the membrane processes that can be used to reduce its turbidity, but, it is prone to membrane fouling. Pretreatment is considered the most effective way to reduce membrane fouling. Materials and Methods: This study simulated the effect of centrifugation...

Comparison of Heat Transfer Power of the Cooling Panel with Square Cross Section and Circular Cross Section in Electric Arc Furnaces Steelmaking by the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics

Steel pipes with circular cross-sections are usually used in cooling panels of electric arc furnaces. In the present study pipes with square cross-sections under equivalent conditions were used to obtain more information on the possibility of increasing the heat transfer and cooling efficiency. The results showed increased efficiency of the square pipe compared to the circular cross-section pip...
